The Waiting Game


ok, So I auditioned for Everwood yesterday and last night my new agent called me trying to get a hold of my manager for my last quote (the amount of money I got paid on my last job). I haven't got offered the part yet - I guess they were trying to figure out money first. My manager was no where to be found after 6pm, and I told him what my day rate was for a co-star role. But this role on Everwood is a guest star role. (Co-star roles are usually a few lines, in one scene - maybe two. A guest star role is usually larger and definately gets paid more than a co-star).
So we played phone tag all day between my agent and my manager and myself. Then, my manager calls me and says that my agent just got off the phone with the casting office and they are still trying to figure out if they want to hire someone from LA or someone from Utah. Apparently this show shoots in Utah and if they go with an LA actor - I am their first choice. YAY!!!!! But they are also thinking about maybe hiring someone in Utah instead. That would save them money if they did considering they'd have to fly me out, put me up in a hotel, and pay me for 3 days of work, when the role really only works one. In my mind it makes more sense to hire a local hire from Utah since they would save money. (That's my frugal mind thinking). My manager is confident they will go with me. Especially since it's for a guest star role - not a co-star. I should find out by the end of the day today. I really hope I get the job - mainly because travelling to Utah first class sounds cool - but I need this booking for my new agent!
To quote A Chorus Line, "God, I hope I get. I hope I get it."

Hang in there kid, Remember the golden rule. Pray Hard. Wake up every morning saying, " Today is the day I'm getting my big break. What ever you want pray and ask the Lord for the will and power to do it then sit back and wait for the changes. (If you are right with him he in turn will be alright with you.) A little food for the soul. As always love your stuff, Keep it coming.

So...I'm having one of those moments where I am extremely proud of the talent I represent. No really - I have some amazingly talented actors on my roster.   Yes - here in South Texas.  Corpus Christi to be exact.   A city which has NEVER had a talent agency submitting actors for these opportunities! ACTOR: Your Hobby or Profession?

Acting is fun.  And for the most part, those who have been bitten by the acting bug will find a way to ACT.  Whether its in their school's play production, community theatre, independent films, or their own youtube channels.  I have seen a ton of talent in my life.  Both at the small town level, and on Hollywood sets.  And I often wonder about the actor onstage in the local community theatre and wonder what their plans and dreams are...  When I started as an actor, I absolutely loved it.  I couldn't get enough of it, actually.  I would audition for plays back to back, participate in student films whenever I could, and dreamt about the day when I could actually do it for a living.  That was my goal.  To make a living doing what I loved to do - so that "work" wouldn't feel like "work". And the JOURNEY Continues...

First of all, let me just say this blog was correctly titled! My journey has been quite an interesting one!  Definitely not "uneventful" - that's for sure... I left LA about 6 1/6 years ago, not knowing why I was leaving a pretty stable acting career in an industry where stable acting careers are hard to find.  I came back home to Texas, not sure what I was looking for, but open to the adventure that was to be found. Three years later, I left Austin and found myself back in my hometown of Corpus Christi Texas, with two kids and a husband.  That was January, 2 years ago.  My initial plan was to open up a casting office in town, and continue casting.  What I found was a city that didn't have much of an entertainment business community.  No talent agencies, no acting schools, aside from high school theatre and the college and university.  That makes casting very difficult.
